Product knowledge, Market knowledge and selling skill are three component every sales person should have. An outstanding sales person would have a good grasp of these components and take advantage of it to excel.

On the other hand, can a sales person made it if he doesn’t have those main 'ingredients'? Is there a replacement to those important ingredients if one were to start from square one?

Yes, he can still be outstanding in the market. This person need to have a strong burning desire to sell. With a strong burning desire deep within, all the shortcomings can be burnt off.

If you see some sales persons who are knowledgeable of their products and market, yet he is still not performing, probably he may be lacking a strong burning desire.
